(Draught at Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm, 7 Dec 2012) Hazy reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, spicy nose with notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger biscuits and dark fruit. Malty, spicy taste with dried fruit, ginger biscuits, cinnamon, cardamom, liquorice, dark fruit, hints of blackberries and a fairly dry finish with a generous bitterness. Almost full body. Different and very nice.

Bottle shared at the Earl of Essex, London while waiting for the Zwanze. Pours foggy, golden-brown with a creamy, tan head. Big spice nose, some cinnamon, nutmeg, light toasted grass, gingerbread, toast. Medium sweet flavor with more hefty spices, orange, dry toast, dry pine. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Dry finish with leafy bitterness, dried orange, gingerbread. Very herbal, somewhat to it’s detriment. Hmm. It starts well but finishes less well. At any rate, it’s an interesting beer for sure.

Draught@SBWF2012. Deep amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is juniper, mild ginger and pepper, some sweet malts and herbs. Flavour is fruity, wooden, toffeeish, some mild spices and some slight gingery burn in the finish. Balanced beer though!

330ml bottle. Pours a hazy reddy amber with a small head. Aroma is very herbal, basil, some dark berries. Taste has watered down Ribena to start. Liquorice and berries in the finish. A bit bland, really, considering the ingredients. A bit flat.

Sample at SBWF 2012. Hazy brownish with a small head. Aroma and taste of dried fruit, roasted malt, spices and licorice. Sprawling and not the best beer out there.

Draught @ SBWF’12
Pours orange with a mall white head. Aroma of fruits, caramely malts, hints of berries, orange and spices. Taste is quite spicy and fruity with hints of hops, malts and caramel. Finish is hoppy and fruity with notes of malts. Okay, a bit unbalanced ale.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines: not really getting into this kind of beer has an odd fruity liquorice taste. It has plenty of bombastic there with a taint of indigo. Won’t be having again but glad I tried it!

Keg at Euston tap. It pours cloudy brown, with a thin white rim. The nose is full of berry, liquorice, plum, prune, raisin, parma violets, cider notes, citrus fruit and a touch of white wine vinegar. The taste is initially full of sweet berry (blackcurrant and blueberry), raisin, cherry, fruit yoghurt, jam and caramel, then zesty citrus, assertive bitterness, wood, resin, liquorice, medicinal aspect, pepper and herbal notes, with a long, peppery-bitter finish. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. With each mouth-full something else comes through. Wow there is a hell of lot going on here and the flavours somehow meld together well. Interesting and flavoursome.
