Steel Toe Stout (Milk Stout)

355ml bottle. Pours black with a medium, frothy head. Aroma is sweet, dry roast yeast. Taste is sweet throughout with dark berries and a dry, roast finish.

Bottle @ Ölrepubliken. Pours very dark wooden brown with a small mocha head that doesn’t leave much trace while dissipating. Smell is sweet with roasted malts, dark bread, prunes, roasted oatmeal flakes, lemon zest and sweetened coffee. Taste is sweet and bitter with roasted malts, green chili, bitter chocolate, dark roast coffee, slightly dry grass, wood, dark bread, raisins and hints of peat and golden syrup. Mouthfeel is round, tiny watery and light to medium bodied. Finish is sweet and slightly butter with roasted malts, sweet dark bread, dark chocolate and sweetened coffee.

This stout poured a very dark brown colour with a quick living, tan coloured head. To the nose there are scents of caramel, fresh ground coffee and a little cocoa. First sip was very smooth and creamy with coffee flavours in the front and a light malt flavour in the back. Finish is very roasty with roasted caramel lingering.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with a small white head. Aroma is toasted malty and caramelish. Thick malty and light caramelish malty. Bitter, dark malty and caramelish to breadish. Ends dry and roasted malty into the finish.

clear amber, small light brown head. roasted malts, sweet malty note, good balance. flavor is roasted malts, toffee, faint sugary sweet note.

Bottled. A dark red beer with thin tan head. The aroma has notes of caramel, roasted malt, and nuts. The flavor is sweet with notes of milk, roasted malt, and nuts, leading to a dry finish.

Bottle @ SBWF2011. Pours a dark brown color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty chocolate aroma. Roasted malty sweetish chocolate flavor. Has a roasted malty sweetish chocolate finish with hints of caramel.

12 ounce bottle, no bottle date notched. Pours crystal clear dark brown color with a fairly dense 1-2 finger light tan head with nice retention that reduces to a thin lacing cap that sticks around. A small bit of lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of big roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, and spicy hops. Nice and standard stout aromas with nice strength. Taste of milk chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, coffee, and light spiciness. Fair amount coffee-like bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, caramel, molasses, creaminess, and spiciness. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy mouthfeel and smooth drinking. No alcohol noticed other than a slight warming after the finish. Overall a very nice and drinkable sweet stout; though it wasn’t as sweet as I was expecting. Nice balance overall though.
