Bottle, 22oz. A more or less black one, with a dark tan head of moderate size leaving lacings. There’s some herbal notes on the nose, oregano perhaps, with licorice, roasted malts and dark coffee. Some bourbonish boozyness and wood. Licorice, roasted malts, dark chocolate and some booze in the flavor, a nice bitterness chiming in. Lasting finish. Sure a nice one, hides the alcohol too, but I don’t really mind. 140724

Bomber from Appalachian Vintner, bottled 11/6/12. Pours an inky dark brown color with a thin frothy brown head. Fair head retention. Aroma of roast, chocolate, nuts, oats, tobacco leaves, mild marzipan and herbal hops. The taste is roast, nuts, chocolate, bitter hops. Medium bodied, low carbonation, lingering bitterness, moderate booze. Solid, no sign of oxidation.

From the February 2014 3R6P tasting +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured thick, black and oily with a large foamy dark brown head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was bitter and roasty with notes of coffee, wood, smoke and a bit of red wine. The flavor was bitter and roasty with moderately strong floral hops, wood, smoke and coffee. Long bitter finish of roasty malts and smoke. Thick and creamy body. Ok.

8oz pour at Smoke and Barrel. Pours an inky black with some spitty, white head. Nose is spot on for the style, toasted bread, molasses, some coffee grounds, roasted malt, some chocolate. Flavor had a bit more of a cherry twang than I expected, but again very true to style, roasty, toasty, sweet, chocolate, mild coffee. Full bodied finish. Straight up imperial stout.

Bottle @ home shared with Dutchdrebus. This beer was tasted on the night Dafne Schippers, a Dutch heptathlete, won the bronze medal at the Moscow World Athletics Championships, to celebrate this fantastic achievement. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized medium to dark brown colored head that unfortunately diminishes fairly quickly. Aroma has malts, roasted malts, ash, lightly chocolate. Taste malts, roasted malts, lightly chocolate, nicely bitter. Oily texture, medium to full body and carbonation.
