500ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with average to huge, firm, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Dark malty aroma has cautious hints of red and dark berries, a touch of nuts, coffee, roast, dry hints of fruit parings and herbal hop. Taste is dark malty, hints of red and dark berries, milk chocolate, a touch of roast, dry and minimally tart hints of fruit parings; mild bitter finish, light body. Mild, cautious, round, well-balanced, very drinkable.

Bottle, thanks to my BBF homer, jackl. It pours near black with a medium beige head. The nose is earthy, faint roasted malt, toast, liquorice, treacle, dark fruit and faint hint of jam. The taste is roasted malt, spice, earth, toast, coffee, varnish, ash and some dark fruit with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Pretty easy drinking. Decent.

Bottle at Bruce’s, London. Massive thanks to Jack for tracking down the ever-elusive 5% version. How does he doe it? Pours clear brown with a frothy beige head. Chalky, dry and dusty cocoa in the nose. Light sweet flavor, some sweet cocoa, toasty bread, light dirt. Light bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Dirty earth to finish, dry cocoa, toast. Very nice stout. Good balance, reasonable depth.

Bottle at home, 12 stouts BBF online, 24/01/13 (Happy 70th Mum!). Pours a light shade of black, almost extremely dark mahogony brown, with a patchy tan head. Nose is dark roast malts, toffee, light coffee, dark fruits, touch of liqourice. Initially too cold as straight from the outhouse so returning later to continue the rate. Far better flavours after 45/50 minutes warming. Taste comprises roast malt, dark plummy fruit, mineral tones, molasses, touch of liqourice, hint of chocolate. Medium bodied, moderate caronation - perhaps a touch OTT here, dry finish. Ok stout.

Bottled (from Ales By Mail). First rating of 2013, because Bristol is a nice place, and I long to a warm summer day (which turned into rain, but it was sunny while Chriso and I were at the deck of the Grain Barge!). Black colour, small brown head. Aroma is coffee, some toffee, mild fruityness as well as some slight notes of roast. Flavour is mild roast, some slight toffee,

Bottle as part of the Twelve Stouts of Christmas. Almost black with a tight, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and chocolate, with a touch of fruity sweetness. Flavour had more plain choclate, toasted grains and a lingering, dry finish. Very good.

Bottle from brewer 12 Stouts 2012 141212
Black, massive tan head that dissipates to thin layer, some lacing
Aroma of roasted malts, touch of burnt crust, hint of yeast
Taste as aroma, lots of roasted malts, dab of burnt crust, touch of bitter chocolate, rich dark malts, some brown leaves
Palate - Soft carb, light to medium body, quite a smooth texture. Finish is considerably dry, quite strong roasted malts and light burnt crust in the linger
Overall - It’s exactly what the bottle says - a dry stout. It’s pretty good too and gets better with the drinking
