You may have had Black IPA, but you’ve never had a Double Black Belgian Rye PA.

Cohort is a double IPA brewed with Pale, Rye, Carafa and other speciality malts that marry together with a plethora of New Worl hops and a Belgian Yeast to create something entirely unique.

The New World hops mesh together to create an intensely fruity and resinous aroma and taste. A forgiving sweetness balances the insane amount of hops used in this Belgian Beast

33cl Bottle from deeblo, thanks Bruce! Deep dark brown to black colour, light beige head. Aroma is tart, smells infected, paper, berries, hops, liquorice. Flavour is sour/tart, liquorice, berries, roasted bitter finish, just plain off. Too bad. Light bodied, over-carbonated, probably b/c of the infection. Hope to ever re-rate it again.

33 cL bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is dense hoppy, fruity to floral, light bretty. Bitter, crisp hoppy and citrusy. Ends dry, fruity and dry hoppy. Lasting grapefruity, peachy and light bretty.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, hops, yeast, and fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, alcohol, roasted malt, hops, and yeast, leading to a bitter finish.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours a deep dark brown - close to black - with a vague orange hue with a huge and very lively beige head. Odd herbal aroma and.....Brett!! Medium body, excessive carbonation - way too much - roast and licorice, again herbs while the Brett is fairly downplayed in the flavour. Not all that bitter. Sort of a black Orval! Most likely infected, but quite enjoyable.150812

Draught@Euston Tap, London. Black colour mor or less, small off-white head. Aroma is roasted malts, fruits, liquorice, some mild raisins and rather strongly hopped. Flavour is roasted malts, liquorice, some salted liquorice and all this in a nice balanced. Mild notes of black berries as well when it warms up a bit.

Tap at the Euston Tap - 01/08/12. Jet black colouration with a thin tan head which soon vamooshises - fairly pronto! Dark fruit aroma, sweet malt and a piney citrus hint. Similar taste to nose - malty more so. Minimal carbonation - a little flat if anything? Bitter dry finish. Average.

Aroma: Rich fruits and dark chocolate.

Appearance: Jet black body with a thin tan head that quickly disappears. Great lacing.

Taste: Rich, dark fruit flavours but a surprising lightness to the beer. The 7.5% ABV is well hidden.

Palate: Slick, oily mouthfeel. Thin to medium body. Average carbonation.

Overall: Considering its ABV, this is a light, fruity beer. Very tasty.

Takeaway bottle from Mr Lawrence’s WIne Bar, Brockley. Black pour with a beige head. Blackberries, dark fruits and chocolate aromas. Sharp flavours of berries, grapefruit and a little chocolate. Sharp, bitter finish. Tasty.

33cl bottle from Bottle Shop, Canterbury. Black beer with thick beige head. Piney hoppy aroma. Yes like Radox bath salts. Malts are a bit bizarre with the Rye. Spicy, but bit of burnt something, burnt molasses? Not sure where the Belgian bit of this comes in. Double black as there is certainly dark malts here, but not big malts. Hoppy finish. Some bitterness. Bit strange, not bad, but not sure all the different flavours make a harmonious beer. Tasty though. Prunes on aroma. Yes stewed prunes spring to mind. Bit odd. Not something I would choose to drink again.

Bottle, Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Black pour crowned with a tan head. Super enticing nose of dark choc, roast, fruits and hop. Fullish mouthfeel. Complex and tasty flavour that had roasted malts tussling for position with piney hop alongside some citrus and choc notes. Some bitterness towards the finish with a little booze. Plenty to like here. These guys produce some good stuff and this is maybe the best I’ve tasted yet from their quiver. Would definitely seek out again
