Bottle shared with Ashton McCobb. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, liquorice, toffee, bit of booze heat. Taste is more liquorice, tar, molasses, dark chocolate, dried orange, burnt toast. Lots going on. Dry finish.

Bottle from Rheged. Appearance - opaque black, creamy fawn head. Nose - toffee and dark chocolate. Taste - creamy chocolate, burnt bread and liquorice. Dried orange thing in there too. Palate - medium to full bodied with a creamy/tangy/sweet texture. The finish is still dry. Overall - excellent beer.

330ml bottle from Tebay Services, M6. Pours dark, decent tan head. Aroma is lightly sweet, cocoa, dark berries. Taste is oily, smooth cocoa with a curious sweetness. Low bitterness, more chocolate-focussed than roast and that sweetness that’s hard to pin down. Expected a little more layered depth for the strength, but it’s still a likeable stout.

Bottle from the Beer Emporium’s bottle shop, Bristol. Pours a deep maroon brown with a milk chocolate brown head. Aroma of rich roasted chocolate, plum, blackberry, raspberry, vanilla with an alcohol edge, well it is 9.3%. Light sweetness, medium roasted bitterness, touch of sour developing. Full body, slick texture, soft carbonation. Finish is sweeter with lasting roasting and fruitiness. Very drinkable.

Bottle. Suprising head for an imperial double stout. Nose is tobacco, ash, beech, fruity notes (blueberry?) and bubble gum. Taste is cherry, cola, strong fruity notes with pronounced blueberry, more of the bubble gum, a little of the smoke from the nose in the finish. Further sips bring in salt, and licorice, with some further dark fruits. This is a very disjointed imperial stout which lacks depth, the fruit notes are off style and overwhelm the rest of the beer to it’s detriment. Poor.

330ml bottle from bottle shop in Keswick - A jet-black body, almost oil-like, with a dirty looking thick brown head which last some time. The nose is chocolate, liquorice, blackcurrants, coffee, very complex as new notes hit the nostrils. The taste is the same, a bit of vanilla, cherry and some spices come through as well. Oily in the mouth, a boozy warmth at the end. I like this a lot.

Pitch black color. Sweet malty nose, with salt water toffee, Worcester sauce, mushrooms, really interesting. Big malty character, plums, black licorice, salt water toffee, semi-sweet dark chocolate, very smooth. Highly drinkable, complex and interesting beer. Excellent.
