Bottle on the Black Country Train Tasting Part I, 06/07/13, thanks to Jack. Light black with a medium tan head that retains well. Nose is dark toffee, chocolate, booze, light roasted malts. Taste comprises dark toffee fudge, treacle toffee, dark fruits, dates, sugars, molasses, tobacco, touch of booze. Full bodied, fine carbonation, roasty finale with a little warming alcohol. Ok impy - a little basic/1D in its make up but the alcohol was well integrated for 9%+.

Very strong black ale, verging on medicinal, especially in its aroma. No head and heavy in the palate.

Bottle at Craig’s 16th Oct 2012
Pitch black, thin tan head
Aroma - soft dark malts, light liquorice, touch of alcohol, light dark berries
Taste - rich dark malts, some liquorice, touch of dark fruits, smooth
Palate - medium body, sticky texture. Finish as main flavour, some liquorice and fruity dark malts, hint of treacle.
Overall - Rather nice imperial stout - was lacking in complexity for me though, mainly dark malts

On tap at the Rake. Opaque black beer, decent tan head. Smooth palate, semi dry. Rich malt with some unsweet dark chocolate. Trace of bubblegum sweetness and a little dentine chewing gum spice. Alright but I prefer more coffee and chocolate from double stouts. 3.0
