Alkoholhalt: 8 %

(Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival, 29 Sep 2012) Dark brown colour with lasting pale brown head. Roasted, hoppy nose with notes of roasted malt, pine needles, grapefruit, chocolate and a touch of tar. Roasted, hoppy taste with pine needles, grapefruit, ashes, dark bread, coffee and a solid piney bitterness in a fairly dry finish. Almost full body, quite dry. One of the better black IPA’s I’ve tried. Excellent.

Draught Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Almost black colour with some white head. Aroma and flavours are hops, malts and licorice. Nothing special, little bit of watery for me.

(Draught at Pikkulintu, 20121025) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and almost white. Aroma had pine, citricness and mild roastedness in the background. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were pine, burnt malts, roasted malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy, burnt and bitter. The aroma was more like the one of an IPA but the taste was closer to a stout.

Draught@SBWF2012. Black colour, small slightly off-white head. Aroma is fruity, mildly spicy, some roasted malts as well as liquorice. Flavour is rather similar with a big roasted and quite a hoppy finish.

330 ml bottle bought through Systembolaget. Pours dark brown with a small brownish beige head that leaves a small sticky trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is slightly sweet, tiny fruity and herbal with heavily roasted malts, grapefruit juice, sweet liquorice candy, freshly cut grass, gooseberries, dark grapes, resinous wood, overripe lemons, lemon balm, dill, orange peal and pine. Taste is very tiny sweet , bitter and herbal with roasted malts, grapefruit rinds, ammonium chloride, lemon balm, bitter chocolate, dark roast coffee, resinous wood, minerals, freshly cut grass, pine and orange peal. Mouthfeel is tiny round, slightly astringent, slightly rough and medium bodied. Finish is bitter with roasted malts, grapefruit rinds, ammonium chloride, pumpernickel, pine, minerals and resinous wood. Quite unbalanced and rough around the edges…

Draught @ SWBF’12

Pours pitch black with a bubbly head. Aroma of roasty malts, fruity hops, grain and ash. Taste is roasty and hoppy with some off-flavors, ash and grains. Finish is lingering hoppy and slightly roasty. A bit unbalanced but still quite tasty black IPA.

Draught at SBWF. Hazy near black, beige head. Aroma of pear and licorice. Dry with above medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Aniseed and grain, vanilla, pears and black currant. Increasingly bitter finish. A beer with big flavours.
