College Beer Club bottle. Opaque very dark brown beer. No head and zero carbonation. Nose of booze and paint! Semi dry smooth dark malt with a little wood and paint. Nice fruits - cherry and prunes. Trace of chocolate and just a whisper of rum. Finishes dry and warming. Was hoping for something a lot more luxuriant but there are some nice flavours here amidst the unwelcome paint.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 26 Nov 2010) Pitch black colour with brief head. Malty, roasted nose with rum, oak wood, dried fruit, caramel and a hint of glue. Malty, roasted taste with notes of raisins, dried fruit, oak wood and vinous hints of rum. Full body, very sweet, with a slightly oily texture. The rum gets quite overwhelming in the aroma, but stays on a more balanced level in the mouth. Actually quite lovely.
