Cask at Sun, Stafford Pours mahogany brown with a small cream head and good lacing. Nose features almonds and a hint of vanilla. In the mouth texture is sweet and creamy with soft carbonation. Taste varies between caramel, dandelion & burdock, raisins and chocolate – depending on the area of the mouth ! Finish is initially bitter, but fadesw slowly to nutty. Nice and drinkable – and surprisingly complex for such a low strength.

Cask at the Angel, Woodbridge. Pours very dark brown with a small off-white to beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, nut and dark fruits. Light sweetness, medium plus roasted bitterness. Medium body, slight oily texture, soft to flat carbonation. Very good example of a proper, traditional English mild.

Cask at the Grain & Hop Store, Cambridge. Dark brown with a quickly dissipating tan head. Aroma of sweet roasted malt, with a distinct liquorice note. Some nutty and chocolatey vibes in there as well. The taste is sweet with an odd medicinal/herbal tinge, followed up by a bitter finish. It’s not a clean bitter though, more like a sour fruity bitter. Oddly astringent aftertaste. Nice enough body, quite oily but full for this ABV. A beer that starts well and ends less well.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Dark brown pour with a bubbly, beige head. Rich, roasty malt aroma with notes of coffee and tangy citrus. Lightly sweet flavor, heavily roasty, some mocha, ash, wood and citric bitters. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Dry roast finish, slightly ashy, more mocha roast and mild, sticky hops. Excellent beer.
