Well hopped with grains leading to complex layers of thirst quenching bitterness including a chocolatey-orange finish. definitly not a black IPA, its a well hopped porter following the same tradition as IPA (except this was for the troups not the officers...)

Bottle from Appellation Wines Dalry Rd. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - coffee, cocoa powder. Taste - creamy chocolate, light coffee again. Burnt toffee. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a dry balanced finish. Overall - good solid porter. It’s not an imperial porter, it’s a normal porter.

Bottle from Joyces, Athenry [171216]
Black, tan head, good lacing
Aroma of dark malts, soft roast, soft citrus zest hops
Taste of dark malts, mellow roast, dark chocolate, soft citrus zest hops, very tasty, this is going into Black IPA territory for me, malts a bit savoury, quite complex, good flavour for abv
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, good texture, dark sweet malts, bitter roast, soft bitter zest hops. Finish has some soft coffee roast
Overall - This is a ’stouty’ BIPA - a very good one as well.

Bottle from the brewer’s own stand at the Good Food Show at Birmingham NEC. Dark brown with a thin beige head. Lots of chocolate roastiness going on here; some blackberry too. Very tasty. Very easy to drink too. A decent porter. Not convinced about the imperial tag, but heigh ho.

Flavour of cherry, charred toast, coffee and bitter blueberry skins. Medium body with a smooth, creamy texture. Light fizz. Simple and well balanced. Very enjoyable.

500ml bottle. Pours black, large beige head. Promising hoppy roast / cocoa aroma. Taste follows with nice light glimpses of caramel chocolate underneath a good bitter roast. Carbonation possibly a touch too high, but still an enjoyable India Porter.
