Just before Christmas, our Estonian friends Pühaste Brewery visited. It seemed like the perfect time to prepare for the lesser-known holiday of Baltic Porter Day on January 18th. Behind The Sun And The Stars is a 7% Porter that packs in all the bold malty flavours you expect alongside dark fruits and a sweet and dry finish. A real treat for the cold January evenings.

Can which I think was from Hogs Back Brewery Shop. Dark. Stygian. Tan head soon recedes. Aroma has coffee, dark chocolate and a hint of liqourice. Caramel. Flavourwise we have a combination of coffee and liqourice with tang berries and underlying malts and caramel. A definite tang. Medium bodied. Creamy. Soft-average carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. I likes.

Panda thanks to Cloin. Clear deep brown beer, small pale tan head. Smooth palate, light and semi dry, decent fine minerally carbonation. Slightly boxy dark malts, a very modest creamy dark malts and trace amount of chocolate. Ripe fruits, slightly tangy and slightly bitter. Touch of esters, a very light touch. Semi dry finish. Okay brew, a bit thin, dry and estery for my liking.

Very smooth.

Excellent
