Bottle. Pours hazy very dark brown with airy tan head. Clear aroma of malt and chocolate, mwith notes of herbs and yeast. Bitter, roasty onset with notes of herbs (rowan?), malt and chocolate and hints of hops. Bitter, roasty and alcohollike aftertaste. Not bad! But does it need to be so boozy?

Bottle, 13.8%. Faint fruity aroma with a hint of bread. Almost black colour, seems clear. Good stable frothy light brown head. The flavour is fruity, roasted, peppery with a good mouthfeel. The alcohol is fairly warming but there is also some rather rough alcohol bitterness in the finish. I write this often, but why so much alcohol?

Bottle 33 cl. Dark brown color, yellowish foam. Aroma: sweet, caramel, strong esters, dried fruits, blue raisins and berry, caramel, port wine. Taste: sweet, raisins, prunes, wine, port, honey, warming, bitter, a little out of balance, but good.

Aroma is the stench of gasoline mixed with 1/50th oil for your communist car and lingers above this thing like a nice cloud of people's glorious democratic pollution. Hoo wee I dun do feel the alcohol in this just by smelling it but not in a negative way, good on them for not going full nail polish remover on the aroma. Has a black body and minimal head which is just fine but what else could you ask from a pseudo liqueur. Flavour is very nice sweet molasses brown sugar and pumpernickel character. The abv is invisible which is amazing. Coffee and espresso run through all of the sipping. Crisp finish and no lingering cloying stuff. It's extraordinarily well done for an imperial stout of this magnitude, big bold and nasty. A replacement for your morning coffee if you dare.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours thick and syrupy. Opaque dark brown with an almost non-existent beige head. Chocolate roast and a massive booziness - damm this is hot. Medium body, harsh roast and some licorice notes - and then some crazy booze making this close to undrinkable. Totally not integrating the alcohol this appears to be some macho show off. Yuck! 271117

Bottle from De Molen Brewery, Bodegraven, Netherlands, consumed at home Sunday 22nd October 2017 following a walk over the fields to Wendlebury and then onto Bicester now cooking Zarzuela Pours black as yer at' with a light tan head. Nicely bitter and very roasty, not getting the Rowanberry but lots of bonfire toffee, nice thickness, smooth and really deceptive at 13.8%. A8 A5 T8 P4 Ov15 4.0
