Christmas present. Bottle. As soon as I opened the bottle I was enveloped in sweet floral and nutty malts. Opaque chestnut. Creamy off-white head. Light-medium bitter with a tangy dark berry edge. Less malty than the aroma suggested. Light bodied. Thin. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long dry finish. After the promising aroma and appearance the taste and palate are just bland.

500ml Bottle conditioned, at home on 6th Nov 2015. Poured slowly and carefully into a UK pint sleeve. Dark ruby with a huge tanned topping. Malts rule the nose and also keep the hops at bay in the flavour, semi-sweet with a bitter hop undertone that balances out the heavy malt content nicely. I very pleasant beer in deed, full of flavour, character and depth.

Dark brown flat, slightly translucent. Cinnamon, cedar, turpentine in the aroma. Taste is more bitter than sweet, fairly fruity. A bit of cold black coffee and raspberry on the finish. Body is fairly thin. It’s ok.

Bottle from Memorable Cheeses, Ipswich. Poured out rather flat, minimal/no head and relatively unatractive. More enjoyable to drink, and certainly in keeping with the style it emulates.
