This is a bigger, bolder version of our mainstay Pecan Porter, with a richer finish. Two months on recently emptied Jack Daniels select barrels imparted a wonderful vanilla character from the oak and a pleasant amount of whiskey nose and flavor.

2024 version, 9.5% ABV Small tan head, receding over jet-black beer. Coffee, sweet mocha, syrupy. Nutty, roasted & sugared nuts. Berries, chocolate, mocha, bit vanilla and indeed lots of nuts (again +/- roasted and caramelised). Warming up, ashes and tobacco coming up. Very syrupy, thick, warming. Chewy and viscous. Very seriously sweet porter. Many thanks to the Dewberries!

I have a 12 oz bottle that came from my local beer retailer early in the summer. The label indicates this is the Winter 2022 edition and the ABV is 9.5%. Continuing the 512 connection, I am using my ABGB tulip glass for the sampling. The body has to be called black, because it is, and the head is a persistent ring of fawn-brown foam. The first thing I notice out of the nose is the booze, no complaints by me, and there follows chocolate and burnt grain. I take a drink and determine pecans definitely, alcohol, chocolate, some woodiness, malt and baked bread. I would have liked a thicker sensation. Little in the way of sweetness, straightforward in its approach. Good but not great.

(Tap) clear, bright, very dark brown colour with a small brown head; aroma of chocolate liqueur, cocoa; balanced flavour with a long, light bitter finish

On tap at (512), pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma is rich, with loads of rich toasted pecans, perfect contribution of the whiskey barrels, and caramelized brown sugar. Flavour is deep and complex, with deep whiskey barrel character, followed by toasted pecans, and light brown sugar. Dry and nutty, with a wonderful whiskey character. Lovely.

Tap at The Brass Tap, Austin. Dark black color, small beige head. Light toasted aroma with hints of whiskey. Medium-bodied to full-bodied. Toasted, vanilla, whiskey, smooth, a bit sweetish. Interesting. And good.

Shared 25.4 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of booze. Taste is booze and oak with faint roasted malt and chocolate. No pecan noted. The barrel pretty much wiped out almost all traces of the original brew, which I easily prefer over this. Disappointing.

On tap at Bangers. Dull pour and mild aroma, but wait for it....huge taste and lingering warmth. Nutty, sweet, woody. All comes together quite nicely. Drinkable, but sip slowly, and savor....

Bottle: Poured a deep black color porter with a nice light brown foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt notes with black chocolates with subtle pecan notes. Whiskey notes are also easily noticeable and provided a nice smooth finish to the beer. Body is a bit thinner then I was expected with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very nice beer but can’t say that pecan are as apparent as I would have expected.
