Using roasted barley, chocolate malt, and Midnight Wheat (tm), KGB has a color that is as dark as a torrid past, a body as full as a well kept dossier, and a taste a complex as a conspiracy theory.

Bottle at share. Seems to have tailed off a bit. Flat, black pour. Mildly sweet in aroma and taste. Chocolate, roasty notes. Just off....

Bottle. Black with laced. Nose of cocoa, berries, soy sauce. Flavor is similar, with a bit of coffee and cola, soy, berries, chocolate. A simple RIS that isn’t bad but not the real thing.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish tan head. Aroma of anise, roasted malt, alcohol, pit fruits and some deep raisins and bourbon - nice, but not too pungent. Medium-bodied; Strong roasted malts going on with a touch of coffee, a little earthiness, a lot of pit fruits and some light bourbon and spice. Aftertaste shows more of the same with a little extra sweetness, no complexity and a touch of bourbon with extra alcohol warmth - not too nice. Overall, a decent imperial stout, if that, with no complexity, no depth, no body and not very nice flavours. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 02-November-2013 for US$2,99 sampled at home in Washington just over a year later on 20-December-2014.

Sample at SBWF 2013. Almost black with a small head. Aroma and taste of roasted malt, dark choclate, coffee, caramel and some light notes of fruit. Not that heavy. The finish was dry.

Bought from Rakuten, 9.3% it pours a dark inky brown, completely black in the glass with a tan head that lingers. Nice chocolatey malt aroma. Great full mouthfeel! Very smooth, bitter roast chocolate, sweet herbal or floral hop notes that complement the dark malts very well. Sweet bitter chocolate aftertaste. Really good stuff!

22 oz. bottle, pours black with a small tan / light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, some chalk, and some bitter dry cocoa. Flavour brings out heavily roasted malt, bitter dry cocoa, and more roasted malt. Finishes with quite a highly astringency roasted malt note. Full-bodied and medium complex. Good solid impie, but nothing extraordinary here.

Draft. Poured a mostly hazy brown color with a touch of ruby notes and a small tan head. Aroma was some roasted malts, sweet caramel character. Flavor was sweet malts, with plenty of roast characters. Was pretty bitter. Dry. Alcohol in this one is really well masked. Impressed enough.

2011 bottle pours deep dark brown with infra-red to ruby red edges and a thin dark tan had. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts, earthy malts, black licorice, a touch of black strap molasses and malt balls. The taste starts off with firm dark roasted to burnt malts. It then picks up a bit of dark chocolate and a dash of sweet dark fruity esters before a mild malt earthiness helps bring all of the dark roasted malts into the finish. Nice roasty offering. How’d it take so damn long before I was able to try this?
