Sample from bottle at Glunz Beer Expo, Apr 5. Tiny sample, but in the glass it’s still a nice honey color. Mead smell, but also a bit of a coffee candy note. Does sit on my tongue like a mead, but with a coffee back to it. It settles down all right, but that coffee still comes across like coffee-flavored candy, probably mead is too sweet a base for coffee. Smooth and still. My experience with this meadery, I’m learning that meads are excellent blended with sweet fruits, maybe not much with bitter stuff like coffee or chile.

Light roast ground coffee aroma, tinged with dark honey. Clear amber. Sweet and medium bodied flavor of dark honey. Airy texture and it glides effortlessly down the throat. A whisper of coffee at midpalate. Finishes with smoke and rice. Great transitions. Probably too sweet for experienced mead drinkers, but I prefer it. No more complexity than expected, but a shear delight to drink. The added coffee struck me as an odd idea, but it works. I’m thinking it might pair well with rare roast beef.
