Butcher Block Red Ale pays tribute to the longtime butcher shop on Main Street in Tatamagouche. This smooth red ale owes its bold flavour to El Dorado’s fruity hops and the rich bitterness of roasted barley. A beer made for beer drinkers, that pairs well with a hard day’s work.

473mL can, pours a clear dark amber with a medium beige head. Aroma has a dry bready malt character upfront, with a touch of caramel and minimal resinous hops. Flavour is much the same, with a dry—almost English—bready malt character, backed by gentle resinous hops. Dry, nice malt character. Pleasant amber.

Purchased a can at the brewery on our trip to Nova Scotia. Pours a hazy rich amber colour with a foamy-creamy off-white head, good retention and nice soapy lacing. Beautiful nutty notes with fruitiness, coffee and soft hops. The nuttiness is blended with butterness and light dark grain. Nice light bitterness lingering creating some dryness. Another great brew from this brewery.

Keg at Stubborn Goat. It pours deep hazy red with a decent white head. The nose is soft, sweet, strawberry ice cream, icing sugar and candy. The taste is smooth, bitter-sweet, toasty, grassy, red berry, earthy, cereal, pine, resin and mild alcohol warmth with a short, dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. A bit messy. Not sure with this one.
