Imperial IPA Aged in Bourbon Barrels

Doom may be impending but that doesn’t mean you have to fear it. A collision of worlds, the intense hop character of our imperial IPA mingles with the warm vanilla and oak notes imparted from time spent in our favorite bourbon barrels. Like all good things, Doom comes to those who wait.

08.02.2018, tap @ Oculus:
Nice fizzy-creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is sweet grassy, caramel malts, wet grass, minerals, alcohol, almond cake, leafs, fruit stones, grass, moss, hops, old citrus peel. Taste is dry boozy, weeds, bark, alcohol, hops, moss, grass, harsh citrus peel, leafs, medicine, hints of mint leafs far back. Longlasting bitterness, watery and harsh boozy mouthfeel. Fair enough, not really my cup of coffee.

Draft. A hazy amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of lemons, oak, alcohol, hops, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, oranges, peaches, hops, malt, and straw, leading to a bitter finish. A bit over the top.

Sampled from tap at 'The Shakespeare'. Clear, amber with an off-white head. Sweetish, malty, fruity-resiny aroma of orange jam, mango, pine and some bourbon. Quite sweet, malty, moderately bitter, fruity-resiny taste of orange jam, mango, lots of pine, some bourbon and a touch of honey, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, rather resiny and a little woody finish. Medium to full body, creamy to oily mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Massive beer, really well-balanced, the high abv is hardly noticeable. Good!

Tap at Slow Beer, Fitzroy, Melbourne. Poured a hazy medium amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is malt, light fruit, boozy alcohol. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a big smooth dry woody resin hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Clear amber, thick offwhite head. Wood, vanilla and hops aroma, malt and dark citrus. Bitter, hoppy flavour. Woody and citrusy vanilla flavour. Lasting, piercing bitterness, bourbon boozy with malty sweetness to balance. Challenging sipper, but worth it. Has a good complexity, quite boozy but still well balanced.

Off white bubbly head stayed on a hazy dark copper coloured, finely carbonated body. Malt, caramel, over stewed fruit & grape aroma. Medium to full bodied. Thick, cloying with minimal carbonation & a prickly finish. Taste is much as the aroma with caramel, over stewed fruit, bitter hoppy citrus, spices & hints of cloves. Very rich - a real sipper

Bottle at Len. Nose is bourbon, vanilla, grapefruit, wood. Pretty orange-amber color with a low head and hazy. Boozy bourbon up front, sweet caramel and vanilla evolves into a very dry finish. So easy to drink for the weight. Lovely.

Bottle, thanks Gregg! Deep orange pour, some beige foam. Sweet boozy nose, sticky and syrupy already from the beginning. Tatse has lots of bourbon booze, coconut and vanilla. Warming you up a bit - which is useful when you are tasting it outside at 4 degrees Celsius. Herbal and bitter lingering finish, heavy and rough but at the same time balanced with sweetness. Liking this a lot.
