Bottle 33 cl. Pours a cloudy opaque amber with a small off-white head. Fruity and phenollic nose, with quite some booze coming through. Solid body, close to flat, plums and overripe fruit with quite some warming alcohol in the finish. Not overly complex, but enjoyable none the less. 030312

Cask at CP&K. It pours deep amber, with a decent beige head. The nose is wood, resin, leather, leaf and resin. The taste is resinous hops, pine, leaf, leather, caramel, toffee, gingerbread and alcohol warmth in the finish. Full body, soft carbonation and thick, oily mouth-feel. A delicious hoppy barley wine.

From cask at Bree Louise. Pours clear and golden deep orange with no lasting head. Aroma is fruity and roasted caramelish malty. Sweet, dense hoppy, fruity and thick caramelish malty. Bitter and grapefruity dense hoppy into a warm alcohol finish.

Bottled@Euston Tap, London. Hazy very deep amber colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is toffee, citrus, mild raisiny notes as well as some alcohol and buttery notes. Flavour is toffee, citrus, mild spicy and alcoholic notes. Also a bunch of yeasty notes in it.

Cask, handpump at The Shoulder of Mutton, Wantage, Oxon 22nd November 2011 Pours amber, decent clarity not much of a head (please note I had a v.small sample) Crisp, fresh hoppy zing on nose. Tastes is a great bittersweet combination, really works well as it isn’t cloyingly sweet or too thick, the hops balance matters out superbly and yet they are not screaming out in the face and don’t make this too bitter. There is a warmth though you can easily forget that this is 12%, nicely fruity with some dark sticky fruits showing, but the hops continue to add that freshness. Wish I could have had some more though this is a beer you fear would be so easy to consume that things could become rather messy. A8 A4 T8 P4 Ov17 4.1

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 14/11/2011. Copper in colour with a slight, off-white head. Big boozy aroma of berry fruit, toffee and citrus hops. Flavour had more caramel sweetness, red fruits, marmalade and bready malts, leading to a warming alcohol finish. Very enjoyable and surprisingly easy to drink for the ABV.

Gravity cask at The Bree Louise, London. Pours clear amber with basically no head. Aroma hints at heavy sweetness and dominant hops. Flavor follows up. Very sweet but with lots of bitterness - sweat, faintly piney bitterness, like old urine. Beautiful. Some caramel or toffee, ripe fruits, sure, also meat, toasted sugar, cake and leaves. Full in body with fine, chewy, slightly oily carbonation. Warm finish. Sweet and sticky, plenty of resinous hops in here that just barely stand up against the boozy heat. Some more sweat and grass and toasted sugar. Definite notes of alcohol in the finish, but not too bad. Pretty nicely layered beer.
