Aroma has some oaky malt. A little tinge of whiskey and a faint hint of cinnamon or something. Average carbonation. Pours clear copper, slick palate. Taste has boozy bitterness. Bottle from Smoke it here in San Juan.

It poured a brown color with some light reddishness around the edges of the beer. The head is small and has a sort of creamish color to it. The lacing is spotty and ringy. It leaves a thicker foamy look where it is sipped. The smell is the malts. There is just a bit of caramel in the background. The finish has a bit of alcohol and toffee in it. The palate is medium bodied with a moderate carbonation and fairly drinkable and smooth. Overall, this is good for its style and good for me.

Aroma of sweet, dark malts. Flavour is of well rounded malts with chocolatey undertones. Soft mouthfeel, easy to drink. Body is a bit thin which means the flavour fades quite quickly.

Bottle at ChrisO Snow Tasting, thanks to FatPhil. It pours clear deep red-brown with a medium off-white head. The nose is caramel, wood, candy, leather, berry and some spice. The taste is caramel, wood, dark fruit, tangy berry, metal, brown bread and spice with a dry finish. Light-medium body and moderate carbonation. Straightforward and easy drinking.

Reddish tinted brown, very much tea colored, modest head. Nose was toward the malts, hints of chocolate and roast, somewhat nutty and sugary. Flavors similar, caramel and walnut butter mostly, hint of cocoa, no roast. Pretty dry with a mild bitterness rising to match the dry cocoa finish. Fairly nice, but for a winter ale I’d prefer a higher finishing gravity, it has a quite dry and easy finish. Lingering leafy hops on the palate. This is so British.

Bottle at the ChrisO Snow Tasting, London - thanks to Phil and Anna for this beer. Pours clear amber with a fine, white foam head. Dry, bready malt nose. Light sweetness to the flavour, some berries, more bread. Light bodied with average carbonation. Some dry and toasty malts in the finish. Simple, easy drinking stuff.

Hazy amber beer, tidy white head. Softish dry palate. Watery malt with traces of cream and sweet coca cola. Lots of minerals and a dry finish. Lacks depth and is a bit too watery.

Bottle at the Sussex Arms, Twickenhamd Green - Jan ’12. Poured to a mahogany brown colour, red tinges when held to the light and a small white/beige head. A malty aroma greets the nose along with caramel and light hopping. In the taste, malts, a little dried fruit, caramel/toffee and a little warming alcohol especially in the finish. Mouthfeel is of a medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation and fairly drinkable and smooth.
