Brewed in the tradition of English-style barley wines, Cereal Killer offers an explosion of full-bodied, liquid goodness. Robust malty flavors converge with caramel, toffee, molasses and dark fruit notes to produce a remarkably complex and palate-pleasing beer. Its intense malt character is complemented by a subtle citrus finish from the Crystal hops. With cellar-aging, Cereal Killer’s
flavor evolves further, developing a sherry-like aroma and flavor similar to a cask-aged port. Winner of the Silver Medal for Barley Wine Style Ale at
the 2007 GABF.

Received in trade from Fplumbs, thanks for the opportunity. Pours a crystal clear dark brown with ruby highlights and a smallish off white head that slowly dissipates to a cap. Smells of dark brown sugar, raisins, prunes, and plums, and a bit of alcohol. The flavor is filled with lots of dark and brown sugars, a bit of non descript fruit and a healthy dose of ethanol. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. Decent barleywine, but a bit on the hot side. I enjoyed this, but I would be curious to see how a little age might affect this brew.

Cloudy red brown beer. Short lived biscuit coloured head which is creamy tasting and pleasant. Light palate for the style. A little dry. Very slight sour note before the rich malt hits, coca cola in there as well. Turns softer with more sour malt and mellow orange hop bitterness. Pretty decent if not the muscle car type of barleywine.

Sample at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 02/16/2012. This brew pours a hazy brown color with a medium beige head that recedes slowly. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted nuts, grassy hops and caramel. Full-bodied and smooth with flavors of doughy malt, caramel, hops and nuts. The finish is roasty with a lingering burnt malt aftertaste. Above average overall.

Bomber from Wine& Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours dark amber/brown with a slight beige/tan head. Aroma is alcohol and dark fruit. Full body; frothy carbonation. Flavor is very caramel with something like date or fig. There’s hop, but the balance is on the malt side. Heat is well concealed in the mouth. Getting a touch of raisin in the end. Compared to many, this is fairly clean. Good.

Bottle (2006): Pours a muddy brown with a thin sandy head. Nose is mild with vinous fruit, raison, and malt. Some hints of the enormous medicinal taste to come. Almost indescribable how phenolic this was... Band-aids and plastic - Very dissapointing. I had another bottle for trade, but now I’ll open it to see if there is an infection in both... Ok, second bottle opened about two weeks later - same shit. Worse even as it gushed all over my kitchen counter. I should rate my string of profanities as they were much more impressive than my experience with the cereal killer. I hate to rate something this low based on an infected bottle, but this is twice the crime and I would happily re-rate if given the chance.
