I really enjoyed this one. Lots of roast and good tempered caramel. A lot better than I was expecting to be sure. Bittersweet finish. Black pour with some mocha head. Tap at Annapolis brewpub.

Bottled (backlog). Dark amber colour with a mediumsized off-white fluffy head, which turns into a small and creamy one. Aroma is caramel malts, some slight raisins, ripe fruits and mild floraland herbal notes. Flavour is sweet malts, some toffee, abit toasted notes along with some floral, ripe fruity and mildly raisiny notes. Balanced, and it does hide the abv rather well.

Really quite thick in the mouth, bit of hard toffee, too sweet but its quite nice. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.4

Deep dark brown coloured body with a slightly ruby tinted body and a nice sized, fast-dying tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, alcohol, metal, nuts, cherries and some nice subdued oak. Full-bodied; Robust malty and nutty flavours come through with some raisins and pit fruits along with a touch of metal near the end. Aftertaste is rather sweet, with some bitter malt and nuts. Overall, a good dopplebock, more on the sweet side, but the alcohol comes through and some nutty flavours dominate at the tail end. A good beer - not great, but worthy of trying if you can find it! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia on 15-April-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 25-April-2010.

12oz bottle. Deep black-brown color, with a thin beige head. Mellow chocolate aroma. Rich and sweet, some chocolate and brown sugar notes. Mellow soft carbonation and hop balance is excellent. Certainly leans a little in too the deep, roasty, chocolate malt side of the Doppelbock, rather than the pungent yeast tones from a good German version. An excellent beer nonetheless, certainly above par for your Stateside Doppelbock.

A clear brown doppelbock with a thin big bubbled brown head, dissipating quickly. Aroma of Coffee Crisp chocolate bar, cereals, indicating some forthcoming lightness of body. In mouth, a sweetish and cloying concoction, with burned caramel, german hops, rather light bodied. Boring and cloying.

Again one from CaptainCougar - and again gratitude. Lot of it. I’d never get this stuff out West. Near opaque brown with ruby glimpses when held near light. Slight beige head. The aroma is like bakery buns. With dark fruit. Maybe like a prune pastry? Near full bodied with mild creamy carbonation. Malt? Oh yeah. It’s really malty. It has prune too. Not much hop. It finishes so undry. So why do I like it? The fruit and malt work together. It seems better balanced as time passes. It’s a lager I’d drink before many others. If I saw it in a store, I’d buy it. No higher praise.

Location: 12 Oz. Bottle from Gilly's Feb '09

Aroma: Roasted, with caramel, coffee, toffee style flavors.
Appearance: Nice deep brownish red color.
Flavor: Sweet and tasty. Nice finish
Palate: Medium/Full body
Overall Impression: Guessing this is a new offering. Definately interesting, highly drinkable beer, hides the 8% pretty well, you can hardly tell its there.
