The taste of grain has always been a vital part of the Scottish brewing tradition. We took the convention one step further, milling fine porridge oats right here in the brewery.

The result is an ale with the flavour of gentle hops, a creamy head and just the right amount of bitterness.

A very hazy amber ale with a thin lacing white head. A rather grainy malt with light damp basement, mineral. In mouth, a rather light fruity ale with very grainy character, and light raspberry notes, and some light butterscotch. Not bad. LCBO private import, BB Oct. 2009.

Small white head over copper-coloured, clear beer, well-carbonated. Faint garden herbs, then quite some caramel, and something vaguely smelling of frying oil. Faint sweet-dull malty main taste, followed by quite expressly hop-bitter flavour, starting retrolingual and long-lasting into the aftertaste. Not very noble hops, IMO. Very light body, well-carbonated. Nothing in the whole package that gives me a link to what I usually get from oats in stout or porter. And nothing distinctive, neither.

500ml bottle from Luvians in St Andrews. Slightly off-white head resting on top of an amber coloured body. Smell of leafy hops. Mild spicy, succulent citrus fruits in flavour supported by porridge oat. Fresh, but too foamy in the mouth [29.10.2008].

Bottle at YNWA, Kolding. Slightly hazy pour, golden color, and a nice off-white head. Matly nose with some hoppy fruityness. Malty and bready flavor with some fruityness, leading to a bready finish. Medium body. Sure a drinkable beer, but it’s too much on the malty side. Sessionable, and goes down easily, even after a few, but only one in the crowd. Rating: 5-4-6-3-12-3. (080229)

Bottle. It pours a clear, golden body and a nice off-white head. The aroma has pale malt and a distinct buttery touch, but not in a disturbing way, actually it sort of suits the use of hops. Slightly grainy flavor with grass, some sweet notes, fruityness and bitterness. Medium body. Bready (white bread), fruity finish with appropriate bitterness. Easy to drink, would no doubt be quite sessionable, and quite well tasting, but it’s not a beer I can’t live without. (090617)
