Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small cream head. Roast malts vie with oats in the nose. In the mouth it is fruity with liquorice, plus some ash tones which lingers in the finish. Reasonable.

Bottle from Deli Belge, Sowerby Bridge. Very dark with no head. Understated stout that’s quite crisp and has a small milky smoothness to it, with some of the liquorice sweetness as well.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 6/10/2014. Near black, with a thin, tan, head. Big chocolate and porridge oat notes, a hint of liquorice and roasty finish. A bit thin in the mouth, but a good beer nonetheless.
