From the barrel room comes this oak aged specialty release. Every so often we receive French Oak barrels that previously held red wine. If our brewers have extra time (and beer) they have been known to age some of our Lost and Found Abbey Ale in these barrels.

Florals and some tobacco, leather. Fig. Only light notes of wine but definitely not a sour beer. Pours amber with decent head. Light sweet end. Tap at Sovereign.

750ml batch 1 thanks to Eric pours out amber red topped with a small fizzy head. Nose is a mix of cherries first then some berries and plenty funky oak barrel notes. Taste is more of the nice cherries berries oak and lots of sour funk tartness.

750ml bottle @ Epic Lost Abbey tasting. Thanks Tide and Otso! Pours dark reddish brown with a smooth head. Aroma of vinous berries, earthiness, bready malts, yeast and hints of chocolate. Taste is sour, funky and a bit messy with some raisins, vinous berries, bready malts, funky yeast, wood, oak and earthiness. Finish is funky, sour and woody with loads of vinous berries, some earthiness and some messy notes. A bit unbalanced and weird.

375 ml shared by Willrunforbeer, cellar clean out!! At least 22 -24 months of age on this bottle. No date coding marked on the bottle. Amber / red color, no carbonation. Aroma is sulfur, large oak, red grape, hint of vinegar.

Flavor shows me sharp oak, big vinegar, light acidic qualities. Grape is hidden under the tannic oak. Mouthfeel is damn near flat. Body is medium and has a long lasting sharp tannic aftertaste. Not my thing.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy brown red and no head. The aroma is strong funk, cherry skin, oak. Thin mouth, oak, cherry, vinous, boozy finish, good.

Bottle thanks to bull11zeye, 2012 vintage. Pours cloudy auburn, small tan head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving a touch of lacing. Aroma is tart cherry, vinous, oaky, smells a bit like supplication. Flavor dissapoints, apple, vinegar and sulphur notes are present and almost overpower the primary flavors. Not bad as it breathes, but it still feels like some bad bacteria got in there with the good ones. Lingering hard-boiled egg flavors not really helping any. Medium tart, minimal sweetness, dry finish. Little bitterness, some astringence. Medium body, LA-flat as expected. Meh.

Very light carbonation but the wine barrel aging shines brightly. So good.
