Dark, fuggley and can be slightly sweet. Brewed using pale malt, crystal malt, and black malt, and only Fuggles hops.

Ruby-brown, no head. Slight carbonation feels odd in the style. Rather weak and watery. Some smoke & chocolate but ruined by sulphur & minerals. Not great. For some reason reminded me more of a low-grade bitter than a mild. c9

On gravity at Reading Beer Festival, 01/05/09. Chocolate, dark fruits, caramel with a touch of tartness in the finish. Ok.

On tap at the Wenlock Arms. Very dark brown color. Soft hazelnut toffee nose. Deep rich milk chocolate, toffee, molasses, cherries in the mouth. Very smooth. Light body with just a touch of chocolate in the finish. Surprisingly a bit warming for its strength. Still amazing depth and one of the best milds out there. Very underrated.

Cask at Wenlock Arms, London. A deep red beer with a creamy beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with light roasted notes. The flavor is sweet malty with medium notes of roasted malt combined with lighter notes of chocolate, leading to a dry roasted finish. The body is thin. OK, but not my favorite style.

Bottled at RBESG ’07. Mahogany colour. Aroma of wood and molasses. Dry and light bodied with a flavour that dies halfways through leaving a vacuum behind.

Cask@Wenlock Arms. Rubyish amber colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is dark fruits, yeast and some hops. Flavour is very much the same along with slight hints off coffee.

(Cask at Wenlock Arms, London, 23 Nov) Very dark brown colour with small beige head. Malty nose with toffee, nuts and a hint of citrus. Malty, roasted and nutty taste with a hint of Coca-Cola. Rather dry, with a touch of citrussy hops in the finish. Nice and tasty mild.

Cask @ GBBF 2006. Pours a blackish/brown colour with a small tan head. Fruity and slightly roasted malty aroma. Sweet malty slightly salty flavor. Malty caramel finish.

Bottle August 05 picked up from the shop near the brewery. This was far and away the best of the bottle that I picked up from Earl Soham. A dark brown mild that is really quite full of flavour hops and sweetness show through as do some lovely but well restrained roasted flavours. This is a beer that really suprised me, and was far and away the best that I have had from this brewery. An excellent mild.
