Tavern Ale is top-fermented, making it an ale. It is a medium to full-bodied beer with a hoppy aroma. Tavern Ale is served unfiltered resulting in a hazy or cloudy appearance. It has a full malt finish with a well rounded bitterness. Tavern Ale is an American Pale Ale because of the large amounts of American hops which lends a distinct, almost citrusy flavor to the beer. Therefore, our Tavern Ales is quite different from the "spicy" or "herby" flavor of European hops.

Draft @ Ramshead Tavern & Fordham Brewing Co, Annapolis, MD. Pours a golden color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty hoppy aroma. Fruity malty hoppy flavor with hints of citrus. Has a fruity malty hoppy finish.

Bottle from GBBF 2011 and drunk at home. Clear russet colour with thin lasting off white head. Certainly a decently intense hop aroma with some toffee there too. Some empty toffee in the mouth. But more hops on the end are quite decent. Like some American beers, this almost seems to clean for its own good. Not a lot of yeast character and the malt flavours are not as full as they could be. Bit of boiled sweet on the toffee and some earthyness on the hop flavour. Decent level of bitterness. ok.

Pours hazy amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel and citrus, Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Aroma: Some sweet malts, a little citrus hops, a touch of caramel
Appearance: A relatively clear reddish copper color, small off-white head
Flavor: Mostly malts, with a little hops, a little bot of a toasted flavor to the malts
Palate: A bit sticky, medium bodied
Overall Impression: This one is pretty decent, I liked it, but something was definitely missing that left me to call this one just decent, and nothing better then that.

On tap at the Dominion Brewpub. Clear copper body with a small creamy off-white head. Sweet caramel and light floral hop aroma. Dry caramel and floral hop flavor. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

Amber coloured body with a small off-white head. Aroma of slight floral hops with a predominately malt kick. Medium-bodied; Subtle acidic qualities (of lemon, vinegar) are noticeable in a rather one-dimensional hop/malt combination. Aftertaste lasts a while, but isn’t complex at all. Overall, a decent APA, but not a ’traditional’ one. I sampled this on ’pseudo-draught’ at the Old Dominion Brew Festival 2004 on 27-June-2004 in Ashburn, Virginia.
