A traditional copper coloured ale with lots of bite, this is a glorious, full bodied brew and a brilliant, mellow, malty session beer.

Cask @ Oddfellows, Pakefield. Dark amber bitter with a thin head. Has a low bitterness verging on a sweetness.

Bottle online from Beers Of Europe. Pours a hazy copper colour with a large foamy off white head. Very faint aromas of caramel, biscuits and nuts. Taste has notes of toffee, caramel, and biscuits with a hint of citrus and nuts. An earthy hop bitterness on the finish. Thin to medium body, average carbonation and fairly smooth mouthfeel. It’s a decent and well made beer, very oldskool but just a bit boring.

Half pint as Murderers Ale, cask, shared with Finn at Murderers. Copper coloured body, covering white head, spotty lacing. Moderate smell of mid-sweet malts and dried fruits. Decent taste character of herbal hops, a touch of caramel, and a bite of biscuit. Semi-dry, bitter finish. Likable, a bit thin though. (Norwich 11.11.2021).

19/6/2020. Take-out cask from the Duke of York, Ipswich. Enjoyed whilst watching Norwich City so at least something Norfolk based was a winner today. Beer pours clear amber with a bubbly off-white head. Aroma of caramel, malt, hops, touch of nut and honey, a little earthy. Medium sweetness and light bitterness. Moderate body, oily watery texture, very soft carbonation.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Appearance - amber to copper. Proportionate lacing. Nose - caramel and digestive biscuit. Taste - more of the same. Possibly a bit of lemon cutting through. Palate - light to medium bodied, fairly refreshing. Overall - ok.

Chelmsford Winter Fest. Presented as ’Wolf Ale. Clear amber beer. Good balance of toffee malt and some flat orange hop. Dry finish. Completely inoffensive but boring!
