Original Sin was born out of the NYC experience. The founders, all NYC’ers, came to see the need for a superior cider, a cider that was clean and complex with a noticeable bite. The quest to create the perfect recipe encompassed both day and night. Day was spent in upstate in a winery, tasting, testing and mixing. Nights were spent in NYC bars, getting feedback from bar owners and patrons. The result, Original Sin Hard Cider was released to immediate acclaim from sources as diverse as the The New York Times, Paper Magazine, and Market Watch.

12 oz. bottle. Tastes like a mix of red delicious and granny smith. Very sweet with a significant tart bite and a little spice. The palate is light to medium, sticky and clean. Overall, this is more than just alcoholic apple juice. It is rather complex and interesting.

Bottle. Barely perceptible tart apple aroma. Pale yellow, quickly dissipating minimal white ring. Watery musty apple flavor. Light body and carbonation. Not much flavor or aroma.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a white wine glass. Pours clear pale yellow with very small white head that dissapates quickly. Very little lacing, low carbonation, and medium/light body. Taste is apple and a hint of alcohol. Average cider.

33cl bottle. Pours a very pale lemon colour with very gentle bubbles and no head. The nose has very ripe apples, almost into pear in fact, but it’s fairly closed and you have to look for it. The taste is actually like green eating apples, maybe a little riper than Granny Smith. The palate is medium structure, there’s quite a thick tangy middle section and a dry refreshing finish. After a disappointing appearance and nose, it was uphill thereafter.

A 12oz bottle from Pick’s Liquors poured into a shaker. No head, but the liquid is a faint yellow, almost clear. Very bubbly. The aroma is good, like fresh cut granny smith apples. Taste is lightly sweet and medium sour. It’s light bodied with a thin texture, fizzy carbonation and a average length sour finish. Overall, it’s a pretty good cider. Usually something like this would give me gut rot but I have a feeling I could drink a 6-pack and still be ok. It would also be perfect for sitting outside on a hot summer day. I’ll be buying this one again!

A pale yellow cider, bubbly, with a surprisingly interesting aroma of sour apples, a bit of earthy, a bit earthy and gueuzy. In mouth, a sweet apple juice with light earthy lactic points, a bit light but decent. Bottled, at ROC Empire Brewfest, Feb. 19 2011.
