Cask at the Old Gaolhouse (JDW), Winchester. Golden amber with a thin cream head that leaves lots of lacing; sweet malty aroma; soft, grainy malt taste; with a decent bitterness to finish and an aftertaste of digestive biscuit. A better than average brown bitter.

Hand-pulled pint on 11 Dec 2012 in my local Wetherspoons. Mid-amber to copper coloured body with a good off-white head that stayed the distance and gave some heavy lacing on my glass. Semi-sweet malty brew with hints of winter extras added: traces of spices and nuts, some fruitiness and grain in there somewhere too. It beat the socks off the other two Christmas offerings available that night (Lymestone Pudding Stone and Thwaites Good Elf) for the wintery feel and flavours it had. I was on a mission, so couldn’t have another: pity.

Has a light, fruity aroma. At first a little sharpness but that gives way to a drier and slightly nutty finish.
