Cask at Ealing Beer Fest 25. Aroma of new carpet. Clear chestnut. Frothy foamy white head. Light bitter. Woody. Tangy edge. Underlying malts. Grainy. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. OK. Not sure if a new carpet aroma is a positive or a negative.

Cask at Victoria, Derby. Pours “bitter brown” with a small frothy off-white head. There’s sweet malts and autumn fruits in the aroma. In the mouth it is basically sweet but with some sour undertones, and a little thin and watery. Malts and marmalade to the fore in the flavour, with hints of honey and peanuts coming later. Finish is dry and somewhat fruity. It’s rather run of the mill, but is reasonable.

Served in a mug from cask at Southampton Arms, half-pint shared with Finn. Deep, amber brown body under a bright naked surface. Smell of resin and caramel malts. Semi-sweet malts added by resinous bitterness in the flavour that continues throughout the drink. On the average level (London, 06.11.2012).
