Bottle (from Ales by Mail). Brown colour with a small beige head. Aroma is caramel, mild roast, some citrus as wellas mild spiciness. Flavour is slightly acidic, some dark berries, dried fruits, roast andsome mild chocolate. The acidity is not that pleasant, but otherwise a nice brew.

Bottle from Rheged. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - grapes but then the toffee kicks in and there’s a smoky charcoal note that follows it in. Taste - light apple or grape before getting into toffee again and again smoke, tar and charcoal notes. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - a dry stout but with fruitiness

Black beer, thick beige head. Aroma of light malt. Flavour is tangy fruit up front but this soon mellows out and you’re left with a fairly standard bitter, malty stout. A touch of bitter cocoa and some of the fruit lingers too, quite tangy. Not bad.

Bottle at the East Town bottle shop and tap room, Ipswich. Pours almost black with a large and long lasting beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Moderate sweetness, medium roasted bitterness. Medium body, slick texture, a bit too carbonated. Finish is dry, lasting roasted bitterness.

33cl bottle from Beer52.com. A deep chocolate brown colour with a ring of tan head; rich chocolate malt aroma; dry spicy malt taste with a well balanced bitterness; and a spicy caramel finish.

Bottle at Bolime tasting 3/2016. Unfortunately this soured and nothing is left of the deScriptors in commercial deScription. Not entirely bad, but not great either - just another unintentional sour.

Bottle. Brown body with a thin beige head. Light lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, plum and dumpling. Flavour of peppercorns, chocolate limes, cherry, green pepper and Blackjacks. Thin body with a creamy texture. Soft fizz. A cracking beer - complex beyond its ABV. Hardknott are an incredibly underrated brewery.
