Bottle 330ml (AbM)
Deep ruby color, midsized beige head. Woody, earthy, spicey, berries and dark malts in the nose. Light to medium-bodied. Roasted flavor with herbal notes, ginger and some other spiceys. Light earthy note too. Not my cup of tea (beer).

330ml bottle. Quasi black colour with huge, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, tan head. Dark chocolately, dark malty aroma, a touch of blueberries. Taste is dry, dark malty, notes of dark chocolate, moccha, blueberries, some liquorice, a minimally earthy rye touch; (too) prickling carbonation.

330ml bottle at home. Pours dark brown with a thin, lingering, off-white head. Roasted coffee and dark malt aromas, alongside chocolate and liquorice notes. Taste is treacle-sweet and roasted bitter. Decent mouthfeel for the strength - better than those Ayr Blacklock’s anyway - Rich and satisfying.

Bottle. Black colour with a light beige head that quickly diminishes. Aroma is very roasty, licorice notes and some smoky. Flavor has roasted malts notes, very smoky, licorice and ashes notes, black coffee. The final has a decent bitterness with a dry sensation.

Clear dark brown beer, decent light brown head. Dry palate, a little soft but with a carbonated bite. Dry dark malt that has a coffee trace and a whisper of chocolate. Trace of bubblegum estery sweetness. Mild tangy orange and red berry fruits at the end. There is even a little melon! Dry finish. Not bad at all.

Bottle at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green - 30/09/12. Pitch black with a big dirty mocha head - this really looks the part ! Roast malts, molasses and licqourice dominate the nose. Tastes of dry roasted malts, a little coffee and licqourice. Medium bodied but with a touch too much of spritzy carbonation, the only minor let down of an otherwise decent stout.
