The brewer combines an intense taste profile with great tasting flexibility. The use of toasted spelt malts and the woody touches give it intense flavors of coffee, roasted with a touch of acidity. The brewer worked on the full-bodied flavors of the malts, the aromas and the bitterness of the three hops to obtain a balanced product: a stout with strong and intense flavors and well balanced, without any heaviness.

Bottle from Carrefour Express, Bastogne. Pours very dark brown with a lasting tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, liquorice, lactose, and vanilla. Medium sweetness, moderate roasted bitterness. Full body, slick texture, soft carbonation. Finish is bittersweet, sticky. Very good.

Les Ardennes Belges peuvent être fières de cette Imperial Stout d’une très belle construction autour d’arômes riches et élégants. Et sans être sur des intensités aromatiques extraordinaires, cette Ardenne Stout se démarque avant tout pas son harmonie sans faille et sa complexité des plus intéressantes. En verre, nous sommes sur un noir opaque, avec une bière parée d’une mousse brune nappant tout juste la surface. Le nez est velouté, sur des arômes riches de chocolat, café, pruneau, fût et de pralin avec une alliance parfaite. L’attaque est soyeuse sur des notes de café expresso relevées par des notes de cassis et d’amertumes (expression du houblon Mosaic). La deuxième bouche présente un superbe duo café/chocolat sur une base maltée. L’arrière bouche, davantage sur l’amertume, donne naissance à des notes de café plus saillantes pour une partition à deux voies. Le trio Mosaic, Belgian Golding/Hallertau prend alors son envol sur une amertume superbement travaillée, d’une belle intensité (IBU de 60). L’arrière bouche gagne quant à elle en ampleur, sur de belles variations de café. L’alcool, titrant à 8% Abv, soutient de façon remarquable l’ensemble. Celui-ci est de surcroît progressif, pour un final, long, de toute beauté où arômes de genièvre, de tabac roux et de fumé se mêlent dans une remarquable complexité et de superbes variations. Quant au sucre, il n’est pas trop présent et très efficace. Ce sanglier là n’est pas uniquement puissant, il a de l’intelligence et de la classe. Merci au dresseur Bastogne.

Bottle, 330 ml from Beergium, shared with JFK10000, Max and Domagoj. Pours dark brown, medium beige head. Cooked vegetables, herbal, bit stinking, roasted malts, chocolate, light coffee, bitterness in finish. Medium bodied. Something seems wrong here.

Black colour with a medium sized thick creamy tan head. Rich roasty nose, roasted malt, chocolate and dark fruit aromas. Thick, full bodied and chewy, roasted flavours malts, nuts and bitter chocolate, some licorice and dark berry flavours. An oily, dry bitter finish. Very good.

Bottle - Perfumy with some barrel notes. Jet black with a rich beige head. Again lots of perfume up front. This fruity perfumy beer is a bit odd, almost like it may be infected but it isn’t sour just really aromatic. It confuses me.

Bottle at home, 30th October 16. Pours black, nice white head. Aroma is chocolate, liquorice, wood. Taste is smooth and rich, but dry, chocolate, oak, vanilla, slight sweet, good bitterness from the hops, ash, some smoke. Great stuff.

Flaska från Saveur-bier. Riktigt mörkt brun opak vätska med medelhögt beige skum. Söt doft med mycket kaffe, fudge, vanilj, vispad grädde, fat och lite alkohol. Mjuk kropp utan den kolsyrechock belgiska stouts kan lida av, ganska rostad smak och ganska torr och träig trots en söt doft- och smakbild, lite som koltabletter men en lite kärv men ganska snäll rostad beska. Ganska komplex, välbalanserad och riktigt trevlig.
