A unique Highland creation, this robust beer is black in color, very malty with hints of chocolate-roasted flavor and a well balanced hop character.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a very dark (almost black) amber with a creamy, tall, light-tan head that dissipates slowly. Aroma is of sweet chocolate with hints of caramel. Taste is sweet to start with but then has a slight amount of bitter-sour for the finish, which makes for a nice contrast. The beer has a medium body with a silky texture. Carbonation is average.

Overall, this is a nice beer. I’ve had better Porters than this, but I would certainly buy (and more importantly) drink this again. Thankfully, this is carried by my local grocer, so I will probably be partaking again very soon!

1/VI/15 - 12Fl. Oz. bottle from a trade @ home - BB: n/a, bottled: XI/22/14 (2015-742) Thanks to Scott for the trade!

Clear chestnut brown to purplish beer, small irregular creamy beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Doesn't look like a porter to start with. Aroma: nutty, caramel, sweet, some mocha, toast, dried fruits, banana, some cocoa powder. Doesn't smell like a porter either, more like a brown ale or a Belgian dubbel. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: lots of caramel, bit sourish, yeast, hoppy bitterness, some banana, soft roasted flavour. Aftertaste: hoppy, banana, bit nutty, toast, yeast, caramel, dried fruit, bit yeasty, bread. Nope, doesn't taste like a porter either. They should sell this as a dubbel. Very weird.

Location: Draft at the Biltmore, 1/1/15

Aroma: Light nose with chocolate and roasted notes, caramel, and some hints of ash
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a decent sized tan head on top
Flavor: Flavor-wise, it is pretty similar to the nose, light and a little sweet, ashy and bitter notes
Palate: Light bodied and a little thin, not quite watery, but thinner than I would have preferred
Overall Impression: Thought this was a decent one, though it is a little thin overall. The flavor, aroma, and even the feel just come off as a little muted/thin. Decent, drinkable, hardly memorable.

This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a nice looking black colored body with a decent one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated in about a minute. There was some light foamy lacing trying to cling but it slid for the most part.
The smell had a robust and dry flavored roasty coffee to chocolate aroma with a slight toasted effect to it.
The taste was bitter and sweet. It was bitter through the coffee notes but sweet through the chocolate.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body, perhaps closer to the medium side with a fairly decent sessionability. The carbonation seemed right on for the style and to me. There’s a nice bitterness running over my tongue in a non-assaulting manner.
Overall, I liked this porter, but I didn’t get much of any sort of \"oatmeal\" aspect about it.
