Pours a dark brown with beautiful ruby highlights when held to light. Smallish off white head dissipates quickly. Smells of chocolate, roast, citrus hops, and licorice, mmm. Taste is chocolate up front, some dark fruit and licorice midway melding into a citrusy roasty finish. Creamy smooth mouthfeel, light carbonation and medium body. Great drinkable porter here! If these were more available to me I would buy them all the time.

bottle thanks to Danny pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma is charred wood, roast, thin smoke. Flavor is roast and burnt sugar through and through, really robust stuff with just a hint of charcoal and smoke in the finish. I like it.

Highland Oatmeal Porter looks thin and sickly, way way too see-through for any self-respecting porter. Smells like mocha with a little dishwater, again, a bit of a poor leadup to the taste, like Cold War Kids opening for The National-- but the flavor of Oatmeal Porter saves the day. I’m surprised by the depth of roasted malt that comes forth from such an ugly brew. The feel also defies the appearance; the beer has a needed heft that the deep red-brown color doesn’t suggest. Not a great porter, but a pleasant diversion every now and again.

Bottle. Thanks to Secret Santa! Pours a dark brown almost black color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty chocoalte aroma. Roasted malty chocolate and caramel flavor. Has a roasted malty chocolae finish.

A reddish dark brown porter with a thick brown head. An herbal and funky chocolate and funky aroma, wild herbal coffee notes. In mouth, a bitter chocolate malt with grassy notes, medium bodied. On tap at Great North Carolina Brewers Fest., August 28 2010.

Bottle: Poured a dark chocolate with a thin beige color head. Aroma is chocolate and malt. Taste is a gritty roasted malt with a bitter bakers chocolate.

Pours a dark brown color, off-white head. Aroma is a mild roasted one. Flavor is roasted, touches of cream, notes of chocolate. A tad dry, but has a wonderful finish.

Dark but not black. Aroma comes across with some roasted something. Smell is also at times mettalic, like fresh nails. Very little carbonation. Mild burnt wet old wood flavors bit not quite reaching Stout levels. Burned bitter charcoal lingering finish without an alky burn. Overall good beer experience.

Pours a dark amber brown with not much head. Aroma is "celery". Not quite medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor is "celery" with some mild toasted malt. It’s not offensive, but it’s not all that strong anything. Pleasant. Does leave some burnt bitter aspects in the mouth. If there’s chocolate, it’s low key.
