Visitors to Smuttynose Island, peering across the dark waters of Gosport Harbor towards the ragged rocks of neighboring Star Island, are sometimes startled by the fleeting sight of mysterious, alluring creatures swept up from the Atlantic’s cold, inky depths. Or so they tell us.
Our Star Island Single is an eminently sessionable, abbey-style ale offering a beguiling mix of flavor and refreshment. This medium-bodied golden ale features a slight residual sweetness from Honey Malt and hints of citrus and tropical fruits from the unique Belgian yeast it is fermented with, leaving a crisp dry finish. Bottle from Beers of Europe. Dark golden colour, white head. Aroma is grainy, bread, some spices. Flavour is grainy, little spicyness, some fruits. Not really my taste.

shared by yespr slightly cloudy yellow, smooth white head. aroma is yeasty, spicy, herbal. flavor is slightly citrussy, malty, hoppy bitter (only bitter).

Bottled. A hazy golden beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of spices, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, spices, and candy, leading to a bitter finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is grassy and hayish. Grassy, hayish and bone dry bitter. Ends dry and herbal.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a hazy golden with small white head. Medium spice aroma, little lacing, and low carbonation. Taste is earthy bready floral malt, some yeast , some spice, and a hint of honey.

355ml bottle from Utobeer. Clear gold colour with a thick lasting white head. Drunk with pizza on a Friday evening listening to soft rock. Slightly spicy blond beer aroma. It’s really quite spicy, but not hot spicy, spicy perfumed spicy. Not horrible. In fact rather likeable, but I’m not sure I would ever have come up with this recipe. Aromatically it’s like a Belgian blonde, in the mouth, like an English golden ale, on the finish, it’s just puzzling. No idea how to rate this. No I wouldn’t buy it again, only to give it to someone who hasn’t had it to see what they make of it. Ultimately I liked the tangerine spice kick on the finish. It went well with the ham and mushroom pizza with loads of black pepper on. Bizarre, but ultimately I did like it and if it was on tap, yes I would have another one, just for the quizzical look it put on my face.

On tap at Portsmouth brewpub. Pours out a gold topped with a white head. Aroma was of bread, spice, yeast, and sweetness. Taste was of sweet malt, fruit, spice, and light amount of lemon.

Bottle from Half Time. Pours medium amber with very little head. Light roast caramel aroma with some hints of yeast/spice. Near med body. Mild carb. Not a lot of spice, though it is arguably Belgian yeast/spice. Quite drinkable, but a little thin on flavor and ends up a bit wheaty.

This ale poured a golden yellow colour with a bright white head. Very slightly cloudy. To the nose there are scents of grassy hopps, dough and a little ripe fruit/ citrus. First taste was very thin and watery with a slight yeast flavour. A little hop added but barely notable. If there is spice in it, its not noticable.
