Our Star Island Single is an eminently sessionable, abbey-style ale offering a beguiling mix of flavor and refreshment. This medium-bodied golden ale features a slight residual sweetness from Honey Malt and hints of citrus and tropical fruits from the unique Belgian yeast it is fermented with, leaving a crisp dry finish. On tap @ Smutty. Very bland and uninspiring offering from a normally hard hitting brewing company. I tasted the spices and some bready like taste. Clean finish though. I do understand they need to have a beer that will appeal to the masses who don’t really understand good beer. So, I will NOT hold this against them.

On tap at Portsmouth Brewery on 05/15/2010. Cloudy orange body with a medium creamy off-white head. Sweet orange and clove aroma. Orange and clove flavor with a somewhat grainy finish. Medium light body with moderate carbonation.

Half shaker pint pour at the brewpub in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Pour is mostly clear golden yellow with a nicely formed 1/2 inch white head. Aroma is some grain, along with a light floral yeast. Pretty benign nose. Taste is mild peach fruit sweetness up front, transitioning to a malty middle and a finish with the floral and very mild clove yeast. Pretty plain taste, though fresh and tasty. Palate is medium to thin bodied, lower on the carbonation side, featuring a clean yeasty finish to close it out. Nice enough beer with lunch.

Bottle thanks to a trade with bu11zeye. Marked as best before September 2009. Pours with a slightly hazed golden body and a white head that fizzes away instantly. Aroma of belgian esters, plastic, bubblegum and suntan lotion. A bit of lavender and sweet/cheap white wine. Taste is a bit sweet, sage, nettles, honey, soggy malt, biscuit, belgian yeast. Dry with lively bubbles. A bit boring.

bottle - Gold pour, smells of spice and fruity malt. The flavor is sweet and light with a Belgian yeast character, spices, and mild citrus and other fruits. The whole thing seemed kind of odd to me, but it was alright.

This beer is a slightly hazed orange color with a thick and pillowy off-white head that dissipates slowly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. The aroma is grainy malt and lightly floral hops. Light body with flavors of yeast, floral hops and sweet malt. The finish is sweet and mildly spiced with a fruit and yeast aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Candi sugar, cheddar cheese, lemon zest. Cloudy golden, thin head. Dry cheap macroish flavor at first, then a surge of candi sugar which then fades away into faint hints of grass. Pleasurable, but unspectacular.

12 ounce bottle from Once Upon a Vine, Richmond, VA, 4/18/10. Pours a hazy gold color with a medium sized creamy head. Good head retention and lacing. Very nice looking beer. Aroma of caramel, nutty notes and a bit of fruit. The taste is caramel, toffee, spices, candi sugar and yeast. Medium bodied. Nice beer.

Great hazy golden copper coloured body with a nice glowing haze and a thinnish off-white head. Aroma of belgian yeast, wheat, coriander seed, a bunch of sugars and a light citrus note. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive wheat and yeast in the forefront with a bit of malt and some light sugars behind. Aftertaste shows a caramel and orange sweetness, some light alcohol and a good dose of coriander seed to go with the beer. Overall, a pretty nice belgie - on the lighter side, but that’s refreshing in and of itself. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia on 25-May-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 08-June-2010.

bottle pours pale gold with a medium white head. Aroma is strong yeast and hot spice. Flavor is light pale malts and wheat, very refreshing with a fruity yeast finish.
