Cask at the Pig’s Ear. Pours a clear amber with pretty much no head. Very nutty aroma with some toasty malts. Lightly sweet, mostly malty, with more nuts and some faintly dirty bitterness. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Nicely bitter finish, earthy, with more nuts and toasted bread. Good.

Bottle, at Cardinal. It pours a clear, dark golden body under a small beige head. Malty nose with some fruityness. Mostly bread and caramel though. Sweet, caramel flavor with citrus and fruits. Pinecones and citrus in the finish, with a nice bitterness. Medium to full body. A quite boring beer, completely lacking the Christmas feeling. Sure drinkable though. (081130)

Copper coloured body with a light tan head and a bunch of bubbles rising from the bottom. Aroma of fresh hops and a bunch of malt - nice. Medium-bodied; Assertive hops and a lighter malt coming through light fruits and a bit of nuts. Aftertaste is mild - not much coming through. Overall, a good beer - not amazing, but nice to try! I sampled this beer on cask at The Market Porter in Borough, London, England on 13-December-2008.

500ml bottle from Centra Colosseum in Oslo. Pours an average off-white head, mostly lasting over a cloudy, amber body. Mild fruity aroma with hops. Harmonious taste of dry malts with hints of citrus fruits added by a discreet note of peppery spiciness, and finished with a nice dry bitter twist. Smooth in the mouth. Medium to thin bodied. A welcoming bitter in the evening after all the Yuletide sweetness [Tromsø, 28.12.2008].

Biggish offwhite head. Hazy brown body with floaties. Harmonic fruity caramel and tea aroma with candy and hop notes. Dry-sweet wooden caramel taste with fruity herbal notes. Soft, smooth mouthfeel. Dry tart astringent wooden fruit aftertaste. Nice aroma, but taste is too tart for me. [0.5l bottle, Centra, Oslo.]

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Bottle conditioned, ABV is 4.2%. Brewed with rye, and Boadicea as single hop variety. Deep brown coloured beer, low off-white head. Nice and perfumed aroma of butterscotch, treacle, red fruits (esp. cranberries) and mild Christmas spices. The mouthfeel is quite thin for a Christmas ale. The flavour is fairly fruity with moderate hops and Christmas spices in the finish. Okay beer, but for Christmas I want something with a fuller mouthfeel than this one.

Cask at Wetherspoons near Trafalgar Square, London.
Pale cooper coloured, small airy head. Mild hoppy and slight sweet malty with notes of caramel. Quite weak and disappointing Christmas beer.
