Pours pitch black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, licorice, chocolate, leather and alcohol. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter with a long roasted, warm and licorice finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

On tap at the Carlsbad brewpub. A black one, topped by a tan head. The aroma is intense, with salty licorice, molasses, roasted malts, hints of bonfire and coffee. Nicely bitter in the flavor, with the same found in the aroma. Full body, quite dry, with a pleasant carbonation level. Pretty nice this one. 130813

Keg at Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell - Pizza Port Tap Takeover After Party, 22/04/13. Dark black with a thin tan head which clears to the edge. Good lacing ensues. Nose is roast malt, chocolate pudding, spice, molasses, aniseed, dark malts. Taste comprises dark roast malts, rich chocolate, spice, leather, touch of booze. Full bodied with fine carbonation with a touch of booze at the curtain call. Decent impy stout, good roasty flavours and the alcohol is well integrated.

On tap at Craft Beer Co. Clerkenwell, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out tons of dark chocolate, dark cocoa powder, and a little roasted malt. Flavour is rich, full of rich dark chocolate, some dark cocoa powder, and a touch of roast. Very rich and full-bodied, full of chocolate richness, while being nice and dry on the mouthfeel. Awesome stuff - very complex and enjoyable.

03/11/2012 Brasserie 4:20 (tap). Nera, densa, impentrabile, schiuma color cappuccino, abbondante e incredibilmente persistente. Al naso sentori di malti tostati, caffé, leggero cacaco, liquirizia, note di pane bruciato. In bocca è prevalenetemente amara, con note di malti tostati, crosta di pane bruciato, caffé. Corpo medio-pieno, carbonazione corretta. Imperial stout magnifica, equilibrata in maniera mirabile.

Keg at CPK, London. Pours oily, black-brown with a fine, beige cream head. Aroma is all kinds of dark cocoa, moderate roast, some alcohol. Nice flavor, robust but not overbearing, with lots of dusty roast and rich baking cocoa, light earth and dirt. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warming finish with more baking cocoa, faint dark fruits and earthy bitterness, touches of raisins and light booze. Very nice Impy Stout.
