Devil’s Milk is an American-style Barley Wine. This beer exhibits a wealth of fruit flavors, from pears to plums to raisins. Devil’s Milk is dry hopped (hops added after fermentation) for a strong bite that balances its big malt backbone. Served in a snifter glass because of the high abv, barley wines are perfect as a relaxing “after-dinner” drink or nitecap.

Bottle thanks to JohnGalt1. Pours out a dark hazy copper topped with a tall head. Aroma was sweet caramel, brown sugar, rich malts, and citrus hops. Taste was more of the sweetness with the caramel and brown sugar leading the way. Also a good amount of pit fruit and citrus hops to round it all out.

beer of summer @ OTH. copper color, tan head. aroma and flavors, solid barley wine, lots of nice caramel malts, brown sugar, light bitterness in the finish, warming abv, bready mouthfeel, dark fruits. Slow sipper, and nicely done, hops are there though not overpowering, leaving plenty of room for the malt, sugar and fruits to develop.

Bomber shared by iowaherkeye. Nose of light floral hops, a toffee note, and caramel. A pretty cherry rust with a small beige head. Flavor is light bitterness and toffee from the very watery body.

Bomber from Pours coppery with a small beige head. Aroma seems citrus. Full bodied with light carbonation. Quite malty but there is hop present. Ends more sweet than not, but there’s some definite bitter keeping up the good fight. Strong fight!

Location: 22 oz bottle from Chevy Chase Wine, 3/2/10

Aroma: The nose has lots of citrus hops, some caramel malts, some resiny notes, and some booze
Appearance: Pours a clear, dark orange-caramel color with a tiny, bubbly beige head, spotty lace
Flavor: The flavor is pretty hoppy/bitter, some sweet malts for balance, relatively dry
Palate: The body is medium-full, with a syrupy mouthfeel, and a somewhat boozy feel
Overall Impression: This is my first bottled rating from DuClaw, though I have had a bunch of their brews from the tap at the brewery. I'm glad to see DuClaw brews started showing up in bottles down here, I hadn't seen them in the area before now. As it breathes, the hops fade from the nose a bit, and it grows boozier, which is interesting. I like the nose either way. The flavors also works pretty well for me, a very solid Barley Wine. This is good brewery, I'd like to see these guys expand their bottling to more beers and more areas, as I am happy to enjoy this brew without having to visit Baltimore to get it.

Big thanks to GMCC2181 for shipping me this growler! Pours clear copper with thin off white head. The mild aroma is full of citrus hops, spicy to earthy hops and some slick malt sweetness. The taste starts out with smooth earthy to grassy hop flavor and then the bitterness begins to pick up. By midway slick sweet maltiness murmurs up in the background to provide a pleasing level of support for the tasty load of hops. Nice American style Barleywine.
