This bitter leads with notes of hedgerow berries, delivering a subtle sweetness with hints of spice. While a crisp, citrus bitterness rounds to a finish that lingers. Expect a smooth, inviting bitterness that celebrates tradition with a modern twist.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours “bitter brown” with a small foamy almost white head and good lacing. The aroma has floral hops, smoke and autumn fruits. In the mouth it is quite bitter with a creamy texture and a little underlying sweetness. Hops are the main flavour alongside stone fruit and pine. There’s also some citrus at first, but this declines as hints of chestnuts and spice come through. Bitterness lasts into the slightly dry finish. This is quite decent.

(Cask at Rake, Borough, London, 23 Nov 2024) Pale amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with citrus, grapefruit and apricots. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of citrus, resin, apricots and a balanced citric/herbal bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Tasty and refreshing. Nice one.
