Made with 100% Maris Otter malt to back up the barrage of hop bitterness, flavor and aroma, this beast knows no boundaries. With all of this hoppy goodness packed into one beer, we wouldn’t have called it by any other name. Spike’s Brewing Words of Wisdom: Oh no, they say he’s got to go. Go, go Hopzilla!

As expected, on tap at the bocktown. Big and brutal. Not at the smell of the brew but at the start of the tasting. The olfactory is mild and friendly but that is no indication of the terribly on style blast that is to come. Somewhat light brown in color. Taste? Wew, over the top. Kicks you in the teeth, elbows you in the side of the head. Warming sensations all down the throat. Gullet is alarmed before it is sedated.. .... Big rude rotor tiller nasty Nellie fer shure. Not impressed but blown away. Mouth coating soapy slippery experience.

12 oz bottle courtesy of Suttree. Vintage 2013. The bottle I received is listed as “Monster Beer Tour Hopzilla Double India Pale Ale” and has an ABV of 10.3% on the label. Description sounds just like this beer. The pour is a mostly clear golden copper with a smallish off white head. The aroma is strongly sweet floral hop and resin cracker malt. Some light alcohol in the nose as the beer warms. The taste is really sharp floral pine hop bitter with a rough resin malt and a ton of sweet boozy alcohol. Quite arresting in the strength of the booze and bitterness. Sweet pineapple. The palate is medium bodied, low soft carbonation and the blast of alcohol dry in the back. Not totally my kind of beer. Cheers for sending this my way, Phil.

Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a vibrant very dark orange-apricot color with a large creamy orange-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was sweet and tangy sugar, strong tart grapefruit, orange and faint notes of pine and resin. The flavor was very sweet and tangy with sugar, strong orange & grapefruit and a bit of bread dough. Long sweet and tangy orange and grapefruit finish. Moderately full bodied. Moderately boozy but in a way that did not detract much. Very nice.

Bottle. Very wet green grassy and piney hops. Cloudy amber. herbal, garlic like, and citruspeel, lime hop notes. Oily mouthfeel, medium to full body. Fresh lime finish, still somewhat unbalanced, but at least not cloying.

12 oz bottle from Ross. Nose is ivy, pine, and citrus with a musty background. Clear yellow orange with a medium yellow tinged head. Flavor is bitter with a moderate contrasting sweetness nullifying most of the bitterness. Really smooth and drinkinable.

Received as an extra in a trade. Stoked to try this! Poured into a Hill Farmstead Glass. 2012 Vintage. No bottling date.
A - SRM of 25, amber brown appearance. Lots of clouds / haze in this glass. Just a minor head. Very little head. minor bit of alcohol legs.
S - Not the hop profile I was expecting. Very mild Centennial and maybe Amarillo hops. Great citrus and pine explosion. Bit of honey / sugary sweet malts. Minor grassiness or fresh cut lawn scent.
T - Wow. Okay, not much aromatic hops but huge hop explosion all over the place. Bitterness is so high that there’s almost a sweetness to it like kiwi or mango juice. Of course, nice floral and citrus taste, There’s a bit of lemon zest and slight lemonheads sourness but it’s barely there.
M - 90/10 carbonation on mouth swish. Heavy bodied, lingering grapefruit juice taste
O - Wow. This is fantastic. It’s not the best DIPA i’ve ever had but very very delicious.

Pizzeria Paradiso, Alexandria tap ($9): Pours a hazy yellow color with a white head. Aroma is grapefruit hops, grapefruit hops, and grapefruit hops. I guess there are some malts in there too... maybe. Taste is very hop forward. The bitterness makes for a very hop forward beer. There is not too much in the way of balance, but this is not to say that the hops don’t provide really dank flavors to enjoy, because ultimately, they do. This is a good DIPA, doing what DIPAs do best. Is this the awesomeness of Heady Topper... no. That being said, this is a sometimes beer... so said the hop monster.

12 oz. bottle. Thanks Carlson! Pours dark orange, with a small, tan head. The aroma is butterscotch, oranges, and apricots. The flavor is smooth, citrus sweetness and balanced hop bitterness. The palate is medium to heavy, creamy and smooth. Overall, this is a very delicious IIPA. The aroma and flavor are great, and the mouthfeel is excellent.
