22oz bomber from Royal Liquors poured into a snifter. Dated Sept 8 2009. Pours a very dark burnt orange with lots of carbonation and a small amount of off-white head that dissipates quickly. Very slight hop smell, mostly malt. Slightly sweet with an oxidized skunk aroma. Smells entirely too sweet to be a barleywine. Taste is medium to heavy on the sweetness and a slight bitterness at the beginning. You can taste the oxidization, this beer has not been stored properly. Full bodied with a thick creamy texture. Soft carbonation leads to a long bittersweet finish. Overall, it’s definitely not my favorite barleywine. Probably would not buy again if the chance came up. Had it been cellared properly it would probably be much better.
