SIBA National Champion 2012 - Bottled Beer. An American-inspired IPA; powerfully hopped and packed with tropical fruit aromas and flavours. Big malt content to balance the massive hop character. Not for the fainthearted. Drink it fresh to really capture those hop aromas. Bottle: all year. Cask: a few times a year. Keg: rare special.

Aroma: Quite a sweet smell - honey and butterscotch.

Appearance: Deep amber body with yeast flecks. Bubbly white head. Light carbonation. Slight lacing.

Taste: Very different to the aroma - spicy malt, pineapple fruit and mouth-puckeringly bitter. It’s quite heavy and harsh - not the most easy drinking IPA I’ve tasted.

Palate: Medium bodied with an oily texture. Gentle carbonation. Lasting bitter finish.

Overall: Packed full of hops, but there’s very little balance.

Bottle at home, 16th February 2012. Nice hoppy aroma, pours orange with a good head and lacing. Pleasant bitter taste, some grapefruit, lakes complexity, and is a little too heavy on the carbo for me, nice drink all the same, got better as it warmed

Orange amber...very hazy...frothy white head..not much lacing
Aroma - Strongly hopped....oranges..tropical fruits...citrus...sweet golden malts...sweet aromas...juicy fruit
Taste - Sweet candy malts...caramelised oranges...light bitter resinous hops..grassy hops...not quite as good as the aroma
Palate - Medium carb...sticky oily texture...citrus tangy. Finish - bitter resin hops..sweet malts...same as main flavour
Good tasty IPA, but after the aroma the taste falls slightly short of expectations

Had@Euston Tap, London (didn’t see if it was cask or draught). Slightly hazy amber colour with a mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is fruity, caramel malty with some slight fruity and nectary notes as well. Flavour is sweet malts, some slight bitterness as well as quite floral and honeyish. Nice longlasting bitterness in the aftertaste.

bottle from Darts Farm. Golden colour, aroma of ananas and tropical fruit. Full-bodied, intensive malty base with lots of citrusy hops that also add tropical fruit. A delicious IPA.

500ml bottle. Pours a hazy caramel amber with a medium frothy head. Aroma is mango, tropical fruits and a little mint. Taste has a small bit of tropical fruit to start. Very strong bitter, pine needles hoppy finish.

Bottle from Favourite Beers, Cheltenham, Glos, 28.05.11 consumed outside the camper at The Tunnel House In, Coates, Glos 29.05.11 Pours amber with a slim white head, reasonably clear. I note that there is a touch of tropical fruit on the nose albeit with a lacing of sick which I sometimes get from a certain hop, must be one of the three C’s which I understand this is brewed with a couple of. Really good biting bitterness, pithy and with tons of grapefruit, this is a tangy, fruity, hop lovers delight, really furriness across the roof of the mouth. Didn’t want this beer to finish, loved it. A7 A4 T9 P4 Ov17 4.1

Cask at Euston Tap, London. An amber/gold coloured pour with a medium white head. Hoppy, tropical fruit aroma. Tastes hoppy, malty, tropical fruit, citrus fruit with quite a bitter aftertaste. No sweetness detected whatsoever. Pretty good.
