Cask, half-pint, shared with Finn at The Salamander. Filmy layer, clear pale golden body. Scattered lacing. Mild dried fruity aroma. Hints of lemon to a malt-accented taste profile. Malt-fruity endnotes. Easy going. (Bath 03.05.2017).

The pump clip simply read ’Special’ rather than SPA but it is the same drink. Lighter golden with not much head, it has a pleasant drier malty character to it.

Draft at the Old Contemptibles, Birmingham. Poured a light amber with a bubbly white head and some broken lace. The aroma is grassy and slightly malty. The flavour is medium bitter, somewhat sharp, with hints of butter, toffee and caramel. The bitterness lingers into the aftertaste which is almost mandatory for a pale ale to deliver a really unusual and refreshing ale. Hats off to Bath Ales for daring to be different.
