Rich maltiness produces hints of chocolate, licorice, toffee, and ripe, dark fruit. Its velvety texture bathes your palate in luxury, begging to be paired with a dessert or to be enjoyed as a nightcap. Suitable for drinking now, this fine ale also ages beautifully in a cool, dark place…waiting patiently to transport you to the time of the Czars.

Bottle thanks to Cletus. I used to love this brewery when I lived in Boston. This one disappointed a little. Pours black with an off-white head. Bad sign. Nose is very faint chocolates, coffee, licorice and light bourbon. Mouth feel is a little thin. Initial licorice taste followed by toasted malts, light bourbon, raisins and chocolates.

Bottle thanks to a friend. Pours a very dark brown with a light gray brown head that dissipates to a film around the edges. Aroma has roasted malts with a bit of underlying licorice, bitter chocolate and alcohol. Flavor has roasted malts throughout. There is a continuous underlying alcohol with a bit of licorice.
