Light, smooth, and refreshing, Summer Ale is pale gold in colour, and at 3.9% alcohol by volume, an excellent quaffing ale. It delivers a flavour most lagers can only dream of, thanks to its all-malt brew (containing malted wheat), and 100% Saaz hops, a Czech variety found in the best pilseners. Like Organic Honey Dew, it should always be served chilled.

Cask @ Snowgoose, Inverness.
Appearance Light straw, clear, 1 finger dense white head.
Aroma Sweet biscuity malt, some cereals
Taste Lagerish slight hopping, bit grassy, hint of fruit. Cereal malts. Finish - gentle syrupy malt, cereals, slight hint of orange.
Palate Watery mouthfeel, average cask carbonation.
Overall OK for the lager heads who want something bland and watery for a summer session beer, not awful though - there is some flavour and I’ve had far blander cask ales, but pretty bog standard and by far the poorest Fuller’s beer and nowhere near their usual standard.

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Straw with a thin cream head; floral aroma; lightly bodied, with a weak creamy grainy flavour and a watery finish. Disappointing.

Cask@The White Lion, London. Golden colour with minor white head. Aroma is fruits, wood, nectar, some earth and also some rather bready notes. Flavour is quite the same. Rather dry and bitter finish. Good thirstquencher.

Full pint, hand pulled from cask and served at the right drinking temperature in a pub called The Courtfield, Earls Court. Filmy layer leaving spotty lacing on the glass. Pale amber body. Mild aroma of floral hops. Lighter taste of fresh fruits and earthy malts with a smooth and dry bitter ending. Summer feeling, indeed (London, 01.08.2009).

(Cask at Duke of Hamilton, Hampstead, London, 6 Aug 2007) Golden yellow colour with brief head. Fruity nose with sweetish notes of mandarin and apricots. Fruity taste with mandarin, apricots and grassy, floral hops in the finish. Rather thin. Too much malt sweetness takes the edge of the delicate hops. Summery, but fairly boring.
