If you’re looking for an ordinary wheat beer, you’re barking up the wrong tree. Designed to take the edge off the hot dog days of summer, Hop Dog Double Wheat IPA offers both quenching wheat character and a big hop bite.
After a long winter, it’s time to take the party outside. Hop Dog Double Wheat IPA compliments quintessential summer fare: grilled fish, chicken, pork, shrimp and veggies. And try pairing it with desserts that feature citrus--like, key lime pie or lemon curd cheesecake. This beer works with all that is summer.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Whole Foods-Bowery, 12/30/12, IIPA Rating #150
Aroma: The nose has pineapple, orange, and grapefruit mostly, with some underlying malty notes
Appearance: A slightly hazy orange colored beer with a small, frothy white head that leaves light lace
Flavor: The taste is a little sweet, with lots of citric fruity flavors, and a medium-plus hop bitterness
Palate: Medium bodied, with a smooth, slightly sticky feel, soft carbonation, and a lightly dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty solid citrus-forward, almost acidic example of an IIPA. I didn't really find much noticeable wheat here, mostly just the citric hops and light, underlying maltiness. Maybe you could say it's a touch too one-dimensional, as those citrusy flavors really dominate the beer, but I still really enjoyed drinking it.

Bottle: Poured a orange to dirty brown with a lacing two finger off white head. Aroma is somewhat unexpected fruit and hops. Taste is very weird with that hops bittering upfront yet a mellow veggie and malt finish. There’s a drying finish on the tongue.

On tap at Gourmet Haus. Loads of grass, citrus and manure on the aroma....places me in a summer meadow instantly. Beautiful hazy orange with white head and nice lacing. Taste is surprising smooth as the wheat makes itself known. Nice citrus and earth. Palate starts thin, medium is chewy and falls away quickly. Bitterness throughout. Citrus leaves it late. Late glass aroma is mostly citrus.

Hazy deep orange/copper coloured body with a touch of a golden look and a nice, dense four centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of strong hops, grapefruit, pine, flowers and a little bit of sweetness. Full-bodied; Chewy mouthful at first that is very potent - a lot of alcohol and honey tastes are noticeable at first with a deep hoppy taste of grapefruit and a touch of pine - finish is very malty and wheatie with some yeast and sweetness also near the end. Aftertaste is very sweet and very potent - plenty of alcohol bite with this one. Overall, a good and interesting take on the style with sweetness and heavy body really balancing out the tons of hops and malt in this. Nice to try, although it wasn’t my favourite imperial IPA. I sampled this 65 cL (wish they made it smaller, but I know everything that MS does is in these bottles) bottle purchased from Olive Tree Market Place in San Diego, California on 08-February-2011 for US$11.69 sampled at home in Washington on 22-February-2011.

22 oz. bottle, pours a straw colour. Aroma of wheat, citrus hops and caramel. Flavour begins with wheat, and moves toward the citrusy hops, balanced well by caramel malts. Slightly thin, uncomplex mouthful. Quite good though.

Bottled. A hazy light amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of spices and camomille tea. The flavor is sweet with notes of spicy hops and malt, leading to a dry finish.
